چکیده

Symptomatic basilar artery stenosis has a poor prognosis. Surgical bypasses are technically demanding and of no proven benefit. A new generation of intravascular stents that are flexible enough to navigate the tortuosities of the vertebral artery may provide a new therapeutic approach. Our two cases, 57 and 52 year-old men experienced a vertebrobasilar ischemia with repeated vertigo and falls. Magnetic resonance angiography from vertebrobasilar arteries revealed severe middle basilar artery stenosis in one case, and severe vertebrobasilar artery stenosis in the other. The patients underwent uncomplicated angioplasty and stenting of the basilar arteries, with excellent angiographic results. The new flexible intravascular stents provide a new therapeutic approach for patients with basilar artery stenosis.

Immediate and Short-term Follow-Up of Aortic Coarctation Balloon Angioplasty and Stenting

Background Aortic Coarcatation (CoA) is one of the congenital heart diseases with the rate of 5-8% of Coronary heart diseases(CHDs). Balloon angioplasty is now one of the effective way of treatment for CoA, native or Re-coarctation (Re-CoA). We aimed to assess the immediate, and short term response to angioplasty and stenting, and also complications. Materials and Methods Balloon angioplasty wi...

"Mid-term," "long-term," and other terms: making sense of clinical follow-up.

of Clinical Follow-up The recently published article by Abruzzo et al describes late midterm clinical outcomes in patients treated with basilar artery stenting and angioplasty. In the first paragraph of the discussion, the authors note that this is the first description of late-midterm follow up for patients treated with this modality. Yu et al published their experience with 15 patients treate...

Primary stenting for high-grade basilar artery stenosis.

We report two patients with symptomatic high-grade stenosis of the basilar artery refractory to appropriate maximal medical therapy in whom endovascular stenting was performed successfully without preliminary balloon angioplasty. Excellent angiographic results were achieved and there were no procedural or periprocedural complications. The patients were asymptomatic and neurologically intact at ...

Transluminal stent-assisted angioplasty of the intracranial vertebrobasilar system for medically refractory, posterior circulation ischemia: early results.

OBJECTIVE: Symptomatic vertebrobasilar artery stenosis portends a poor prognosis, even with medical therapy. Surgical intervention is associated with considerable morbidity, and percutaneous angioplasty alone has demonstrated mixed results, with significant complications. Recent advances in stent technology have allowed for a novel treatment of symptomatic, medically refractory, vertebrobasilar...

[Stenting for symptomatic high-grade basilar artery stenosis].

BACKGROUND Stenosis of brain vessels in 5-10% of cases causes ischemic disesase of the brain. Atherosclerosis is a cause of stenosis in 95% of cases. Patients with basilar artery stenosis and recurrent ischemic attacks are candidate for stroke in 50% of cases in the first two years. CASE REPORT A 48-year old man presented with a 12-month history of transitory ischemic attacks, periodical loss...
